Utthan Samiti is a non-profit, non-governmental social and charitable organization committed to building a better tomorrow and a more equitable society. Established by a group of like-minded social activists, the organization is headquartered in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, strategically located along the Indo-Nepal border and adjoining Bihar in the east.
Since its inception, Utthan Samiti has been dedicated to promoting the rights and welfare of Scheduled Tribes (STs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), minority communities, socially excluded groups, women, and children. The organisation works to ensure social justice, equality, dignity, and sustainable development for vulnerable communities.
Utthan Samiti is professionally managed by a committed Governing Board, experienced staff, coordinators, and community-based social workers. The Governing Board comprises seven representatives from marginalized communities, Self-Help Group (SHG) federations, and distinguished social leaders. The organisation follows a comprehensive Human Resource (HR) policy, emphasises staff capacity building, and promotes continuous learning and integrated programme management.
Believing strongly in collaboration and partnerships, Utthan Samiti works closely with government departments, civil society organisations, local institutions, and community groups to achieve its mission and vision.
Over the years, the organisation has actively advocated for the rights and entitlements of marginalized communities, particularly Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minorities, and highly vulnerable communities such as the Rat Catcher community. Its interventions span across several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Siddharthnagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, and Gorakhpur, as well as districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Rewa, Sidhi, Singrauli, Shahdol, Umaria, Satna, Maihar, and Bhopal.
Through partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, awareness campaigns, and collaborative development programmes, the organisation has also extended its outreach and engagement to communities in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, and West Bengal, strengthening its commitment to inclusive and sustainable development across India.
The organisation has successfully advocated for land rights, women’s empowerment, farmers’ rights, child rights, education, livelihood opportunities, and access to government welfare schemes. As a result, many women and marginalized families have become aware of their legal rights and government entitlements and are actively engaging with public authorities to secure these benefits.
Empowering Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and minority communities through rights-based interventions remains the central focus of Utthan Samiti. The organisation regularly conducts fact-finding studies on cases of caste-based discrimination and atrocities and advocates for justice, equality, and constitutional rights.

To contribute towards building a society free from all forms of deprivation, where equality, justice, dignity, and opportunity prevail, and where no individual suffers from exploitation, hunger, unemployment, discrimination, or illiteracy.
Mission
To empower underprivileged and marginalized communities—particularly Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minorities, women, and children—through capacity building, community mobilization, institution building, and collective action, enabling sustainable socio-economic and political development, self-reliance, gender equality, justice, and human dignity for all.
